Pilot desalination plant to start up soon on Hudson river
United Water is finalizing construction of a pilot desalination plant at Haverstraw on the Hudson river in New York state. If constructed, the full size reverse-osmosis plant would be 7.5 MGD (28,300 m³/d).

Groundwater depletion rate accelerating worldwide
Groundwater stocks around the world are being depleted at an accelerating rate, according to a research paper soon to be published by the American Geophysical Union. The rate more than doubled between 1960 and 2000, increasing the amount lost from 126 to 283 km³ of water per year.

Desalination doubts, but city supports West Basin plan
The city council of Redondo Beach, California, expressed doubts at its meeting on 21 September 2010 about the 75,000 m³/d desalination plant planned by West Basin Municipal Water District, but nevertheless voted to support West Basin’s Water Reliability 2020 Program, which includes the plant.

MBR system to be installed in Versailles
Koch Membrane Systems (KMS) has been selected by OTV France SNC (Veolia Group) to provide Puron® membrane bioreactor (MBR) modules for the wastewater treatment plant at Carré de Reunion in France’s Versailles region. The project will upgrade and expand the capacity of the existing conventional wastewater treatment plant.

Kemira aids oil sands sustainable water research
Finnish chemicals company Kemira has joined an industrial research program of the University of Alberta intended to foster sustainable water use, including water reuse and recycling, in Canadian oil sands extraction.
