Revised dates for IDA desalination energy conference
The International Desalination Association (IDA) has rescheduled its conference on Desalination: An Energy Solution, which was to have taken place in California in September, to 2-3 November 2010 at the same venue, the Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa, Huntington Beach.

Nitto Denko and Mitsubishi win Singapore MBR order
Microfiltration (MF) membranes for Singapore’s largest membrane bioreactor (MBR) plant at the Jurong Water Reclamation Plant are to be supplied by Nitto Denko/Hydranautics and Mitsubishi Rayon Co.

Consumption cut will delay next Queensland desalination plant
Desalination is probably the only viable option for the next major source of water in southeast Queensland, Australia. However, at current consumption rates, this may not be before 2027, natural resources minister Stephen Robertson said on 15 July 2010.

Kemira collaboration seeks new desalination and reuse processes
Improved membrane desalination and wastewater reuse processes is the objective of a new research cooperation effort between global water chemicals company Kemira Oyj and the Singapore Membrane Technology Centre (SMTC) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

Second Singapore desalination plant to be launched soon
Singapore will soon be unveiling plans for a second desalination plant, Teo Chee Hean, deputy prime minister and minister for defence, said at the opening ceremony for the Singapore International Water Week on 28 June 2010.

Siemens working on MBR system and low-energy desalination
Siemens may launch a new membrane bioreactor (MBR) based wastewater treatment and reuse system in 2011. It will also be delivering a demonstration low-energy desalination unit to Singapore’s Environment & Water Industry Development Council (EWI) by the end of the year.

Levant Desalination Association sets conference for late September
The Levant Desalination Association (LDA) has announced that its first conference will be on 28- 29 September 2010, a week before the European Desalination Society’s event in neighbouring Israel.
