Membrane housing expert Doug Eisberg has joined Energy Recovery Inc as product director. Doug worked for 17 years at Advanced Structures Inc, the makers of CodeLine (Pentair Water) pressure vessels. He was also the founder and president of Protec (Bekaert Progressive Composites) membrane pressure vessels.

First MOT plant produces water in Gibraltar
The first desalination plant to employ Manipulated Osmotic Technology (MOT) has produced its first water in Gibraltar. Modern Water, the UK company that installed the plant, also announced on 15 September that it has an agreement to install another MOT plant in Oman.

Kuwait’s 136,000 m³/d Shuwaikh plant awarded to Doosan
Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction won the contract in September for the 136,000 m³/d (36 MGD) Shuwaikh Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Desalination Plant, the first in the country to use SWRO. Simultaneously, Doosan awarded the energy-recovery contract to Energy Recovery Inc (ERI).

Suez/Doosan to build 450,000 m³/d Abu Dhabi plant
French energy giant GdF Suez won a construction contract and a 20-year power and water purchase agreement in July for the Shuweihat 2 power generation and seawater desalination plant in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Shuweihat 2 is a greenfield, natural gas-fired installation that will deliver 1,500 MW of electricity and 454,610 m³/d of water.
