Suez/Doosan to build 450,000 m³/d Abu Dhabi plant

French energy giant GdF Suez won a construction contract and a 20-year power and water purchase agreement in July for the Shuweihat 2 power generation and seawater desalination plant in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Shuweihat 2 is a greenfield, natural gas-fired installation that will deliver 1,500 MW of electricity and 454,610 m³/d of water.

Doosan Heavy Industries Co won a contract in July from GDF Suez to build the desalination plant. The US$ 795.7 million plant is to be built by August 2011 and will supply drinking water to more than 1.5 million people.

Meanwhile Doosan Hydro Technology announced that Bob Randall, previous chief operating officer, has been appointed president and CEO. Randall is located in the company’s Tampa, USA, office.
