Poyry wins Shoaiba 4 contract for owner’s engineering services

The Nasdaq Helsinki-listed global engineering firm Poyry has won the owner’s engineer services contract for Shoaiba 4 desalination plant in Saudi Arabia.

The engineering, procurement and construction contract for the 400,000 m3/d seawater reverse osmosis plant, worth $422 million, was awarded to Doosan in March 2017.

The terms of Poyry’s appointment were not disclosed. The scope of the latest contract award from Saudi Arabia’s Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) includes review of contractor’s engineering, and supervision of construction, erection and commissioning.

Shoaiba 4 desalination plant was originally sited in Jeddah, and later moved south to Shoaiba. It will supply desalinated water to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia’s second largest city of five million people.

Poyry already provides services at Ras Al Khair combined power and desalination plant, and has a relationship with SWCC that goes back 30 years.
