Metito, the UAE-based developer, has beat 10 international and local bidders to win a SAR 220 million ($58.7 million) contract for a desalination and solar power project at King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia.
The desalination plant will have initial capacity of 30,000 m3/d, with potential to expand to 60,000 m3/d. The project is expected to complete within 24 months, and the plant to be commissioned in Q1 2020.
“Secure and sustainable water sources are critical to successful economies. Enterprises including hotels, food industries, pharmaceuticals, and construction will now have a bigger appetite to invest in King Abdullah Economic City,” said Mutaz Ghandour, Metito chair and chief executive.
The client, King Abdullah Economic City, is an urban and industrial development based around King Abdullah Port on the Red Sea coast.
