Hong Kong’s Water Supplies Department has called for pre-qualification bids for Tseung Kwan O desalination plant project.

The scope of work comprises design, construction, and operations and maintenance of the first stage of Tseung Kwan O desalination plant project.

The first stage contract will provide for a 135,000 m3/d seawater reverse osmosis plant, and for future expansion up to 270,000 m3/d, including civil engineering and building works for facilities to support the planned expansion, such as seawater intake and outfall structures, administrative buildings, an electricity transformer station, and a chemicals building.

The operations contract for the first stage is for 10 years, and there is an optional extension of five years at the discretion of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The pre-qualification process is being run by Black & Veatch Hong Kong, which was appointed as owner’s engineer in January 2016.

A full invitation to tender will be issued in March 2018.

The deadline for pre-qualification bids is 22 December 2017.
