Palestine is receiving a new desalination plant as part of a deal struck between Israel and Turkey to repair relations following the killing of 10 Turkish activists on a ship bound for Gaza six years ago.
The agreement, signed last month, paves the way for Turkey to invest in infrastructure in Palestine, as well as to provide aid shipments.
The inclusion of a desalination plant within the package demonstrates the increasingly important role of water supplies in international relations. Turkey will develop a desal plant, as well as a power station, hospital, and residential buildings, as part of the deal.
Additionally, Israel will pay $20 million in compensation to Turkey.
