A consortium of Spain’s GS Inima and Claro Vicuna Valenzuela of Chile have won the engineering and construction contract for a desalination plant in Atacama, Chile, reports Diaro Finaciero.
The pair beat competition for the reportedly $73 million contract from eight other bidders, made up of international and local companies.
The contract with state-owned utility Econssa provides for two years of construction and an operational start date of early 2020.
The seawater reverse osmosis plant is expected to have an eventual maximum capacity of 104,000 m3/d, and will serve 70 per cent of the population of Atacama.
