Dow Water & Process Solutions is to supply advanced reverse osmosis (RO) elements to Barka desalination plant project in Oman, after selection by Suez.
Suez won the contract to construct and operate the plant for 20 years from Oman Power and Water Procurement (OPWP) in March 2016.
The engineer has ordered 22,000 Dow Filmtec RO elements. Specifically, the plant’s RO system will utilise Dow Filmtec Seamaxx elements in order to help minimise the total cost of water for the project.
“Dow Filmtec Seamaxx RO elements provide advanced seawater desalination RO technology, and are designed for the lowest energy consumption available from seawater RO elements,” said Dow Water & Process Solutions commercial director for Europe, Middle East, Africa, and India, Alexander Lane.
The project in Barka, in South Batinah govenorate, is to provide 218,000 m3/d of desalinated water, and will be the largest seawater RO plant Oman. It is expected to be operational by 1 April 2018.
The other partners in the project are Itochu Corp of Japan, France’s Engie, and Omani company WJ Towell & Co.
