Dr David Garman, president of the International Water Association, told the IWA’s World Water Congress in Vienna in September that researchers for Environmental Biotechnology CRC (EBCRC) in Australia, where Garman is executive director, have developed a diagnostic platform that can produce diagnostic results in minutes that normally take 24 to 48 hours.

WERF seeks proposals for removing trace organic compounds
The Water Environment Research Foundation announced on 22 September 2008 a request for proposals (RFP) for research that will reduce or remove trace organic compounds (TOrCs) from the liquid wastewater treatment stream. The research will allow wastewater agencies to apply site-specific processes in their treatment facilities.

Request for pre-proposals on managing salinity
The Southern California Salinity Coalition (SCSC) received pre-proposals in early September for funding consideration on research projects addressing the control of salinity in the region’s water resources and to reduce source salinity in potable water, wastewater, and recycled water.
