US water reuse and supply project gets US$ 2 million
The US National Science Foundation announced on 29 July 2009 the award of US$ 2 million to Professor Kevin Lansey, head of the department of civil engineering and engineering mechanics and four of his colleagues at the University of Arizona(UA) to research water reuse and supply systems.

Bureau barred from further water reclamation funding
The US Department of the Interior will not authorise any further Title XVI water reuse projects to receive support from the Bureau of Reclamation “at this time”, Michael L Connor, commissioner of the bureau told the Subcommittee on Water and Power of the US House of Representatives’ Natural Resources Committee on 21 July 2009.

US export finance boost for water and energy projects
US exports for renewable-energy, water and nuclear-power projects approved after 1 July 2009 are eligible for a maximum repayment term of up to 18 years under export financing provided by the Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank).

Biwater finishes first half of Changi performance tests
The first half of the Sembcorp Changi NEWater Plant (SCNP) in Singapore completed performance tests on 14 July, contractor Biwater AEWT told D&WR. No date has been set for plant commissioning, says Biwater.

San Diego wastewater reuse demonstration to continue
San Diego City Council voted on 7 July 2009 to continue a $12 million wastewater indirect potable reuse demonstration project which would take purified sewage water from the North City Water Reclamation Plant and pump it into the San Vincente Reservoir to augment drinking water supplies.

Desalination and reuse in California/New Mexico get funding
US Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced on 1 July 2009 27 water reclamation and reuse projects in California and New Mexico identified by the Bureau of Reclamation to share in a total of US$ 134.3 million under the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009.

The reclaimed wastewater from Singapore’s NEWater plants passed its 12th bi-annual drinking-water test by an independent international audit panel with flying colours during the country’s Water Week.
