A consortium of Kellogg Brown & Root, John Holland and Montgomery Watson Harza has been awarded the contract to design and construct the Aus$ 90 million (US$ 73.5 million) Northern Water Plant in Geelong, south-west of Melbourne, Australia.

US water reuse and supply project gets US$ 2 million
The US National Science Foundation announced on 29 July 2009 the award of US$ 2 million to Professor Kevin Lansey, head of the department of civil engineering and engineering mechanics and four of his colleagues at the University of Arizona(UA) to research water reuse and supply systems.

West Basin desalination demo could begin next year

DRACE wins Melbourne recycling design contract
City West Water, the water supply company for Melbourne, Australia, has awarded Spanish contractor DRACE medioambiente, in joint venture with Tedagua, an Aus$ 36.5 million (US$ 30.4 million) design contract for a water recycling system.

Bureau barred from further water reclamation funding
The US Department of the Interior will not authorise any further Title XVI water reuse projects to receive support from the Bureau of Reclamation “at this time”, Michael L Connor, commissioner of the bureau told the Subcommittee on Water and Power of the US House of Representatives’ Natural Resources Committee on 21 July 2009.

US export finance boost for water and energy projects
US exports for renewable-energy, water and nuclear-power projects approved after 1 July 2009 are eligible for a maximum repayment term of up to 18 years under export financing provided by the Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank).

South Australia adopts state-wide desalination policy

Desalination and reuse in California/New Mexico get funding
US Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced on 1 July 2009 27 water reclamation and reuse projects in California and New Mexico identified by the Bureau of Reclamation to share in a total of US$ 134.3 million under the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Wabag teams with Chennai university on desalination/reuse research
VA Tech Wabag Ltd of India signed an agreement on 9 June 2009 with Anna University in Chennai for a joint research programme looking at new technologies related to water recycling, membrane desalination processes and reduction of sludge in wastewater reuse plants.
