Chennai II desalination to have Norit UF pretreatment
Norit X-Flow is to supply, install, commission and start up the ultrafiltration (UF) pretreatment package for the Nemmeli seawater reverse osmosis plant in Chennai, India. It will be the first advanced membrane desalination pretreatment system in the country.

H2O Innovation sets up Indian joint venture
H2O Innovation Inc of Canada, which supplies water treatment plants, including ultrafiltration and reverse-osmosis systems, announced on 1 February 2010 a joint venture with Chembond Chemicals Limited of Mumbai, India, a leading manufacturer and supplier of specialty performance chemicals.

Work starting on 2nd Chennai SWRO plant
Work is due to begin in January 2010 on the 100,000 m³/d Nemmeli seawater desalination plant south of Chennai, India. Chennai Metrowater issued work orders in the first week of January for the project.

Hyflux and JBIC in collaboration agreement

Total world desalination capacity close to 60 million m³/d
The total capacity of desalination plants around the globe is 59.9 million m³/d, according to the 22nd GWI/IDA Worldwide Desalting Plant Inventory. Details were released at a briefing held by the International Desalination Association at its World Congress in Dubai on 8 November 2009.

The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) in India has extended until 15 November 2009 its tender deadline for a techno-economic feasibility study for a desalination plant in Mubai, according to a local website.
