Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) has signed ACWA Power Saudi Arabia, Veolia Middle East, and Dhofar International Development and Investment, on a build, own and operate contract for Salalah Water Desalination Plant.
The contract worth OMR 60 million ($156 million) covers design, construction, ownership, operation and maintenance of the planned 113,650 m3/d seawater reverse osmosis plant, on a 20-year water purchase agreement. The project completion date is set for 2020.
ACWA Power will own 50.1 per cent, Veolia Middle East 35 per cent, and Dhofar International Development and Investment 14.9 per cent, of the plant.
In January, Italian firm Fisia Italimpianti signed a $100 million agreement with ACWA Power to be the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor on the project, in a joint venture with Abengoa. Fisia Italimpianti owns 51 per cent of the EPC joint venture.
