Egypt is to build four desalination plants by 2022, as part of its EGP 275 billion ($15.6 billion) scheme to develop Sinai peninsula, reports Haaretz.
The entire project combines an extensive road network, residential and industrial developments, the four desalinations plants, hospitals, and sewage works.
The cost of the scheme has risen threefold since it was first unveiled by Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in December 2017.
The financing for five desalination plants for south Sinai was completed in April 2018, when Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development agreed to loan $100 million.
