Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has signed an EPC contract with Saline Water Conversion Corporation of Saudi Arabia to build a 400,000 m3/d seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plant in Shuaibah.
The contract is Doosan’s first in the Saudi desal market for five years. In 2010, it won the Ras Al Khair project; and in 2012, the Yanbu Phase 3 project.
The deal is worth KRW 470 billion ($422 million), and covers what is expected to become Saudi Arabia’s largest SWRO plant, eclipsing Ras Al Khair which is currently the biggest.
The new plant in Shuaibah, south of Jeddah on the Red Sea coast, will have capacity enough to supply 130,000 people a day in western Saudi Arabia.
