Spain’s Desalia has started site works for a new, 24,000 m³/d seawater reverse osmosis plant west of Alexandria, Egypt near the city of Matrouh.
The plant, which will provide potable water meeting World Health Organization standards, is being built for Egypt’s Ministry of Defence. It is scheduled for completion in April 2016.
The plans for the facility call for an open ocean intake located 625m offshore and a 325m brine discharge line. Each of four 6,000 m³/d trains will be preceded by multimedia filters and equipped with Energy Recovery’s PX energy recovery devices.
Desalia will build the plant on a turnkey basis and provide the first year of operation. Desalia’s managing director, Manuel Latorre, said that the company had provided more than 125,000 m³/d of production capacity in Oman and Spain.
