Denver Water selects Xylem for unique direct potable reuse demo

Denver Water, Colorado, has selected Xylem as its technology partner on a new direct potable reuse demonstration project that eschews reverse osmosis.
The PureWater Colorado Demonstration Project aims to demo a unique treatment train that avoids reverse osmosis membranes owing to their high capital and operating costs, and brine waste product.
The project will use a number of Xylem’s technologies, including Wedeco MiPRO advanced oxidation process (AOP) pilot system, and a Leopold granulated activated carbon (GAC) filter pilot, with the aim to demonstrate a safe and sustainable direct potable reuse process.
Denver Water is partnering with Carollo Engineers, WateReuse Colorado (WRCO), and Xylem on the demo, which runs during April 2018.
Xylem is supporting research into water reuse by the US Water Environment Research Foundation (WE&RF) in a commitment that runs from 2017 to 2019, and builds on a previous three-year research partnership. Internationally, Xylem works with IVL Swedish Environment Research Institute, and Singapore’s Public Utilities Board (PUB) to progress water reuse.
