An open-channel ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system that uses a minimum of energy has been launched by Xylem under its Wedeco brand.
Xylem, which spun off from ITT Corporation last year, unveiled the new system called Wedeco Duron at the German IFAT ENTSORGA trade show on 8 May 2012.
The company claims that the system eliminates the need for chemical-based disinfection of wastewater as well as delivering lower operating and maintenance costs.
A key benefit of the Wedeco Duron is its small footprint. An innovative 45º vertical incline design, combined with new 600 W Wedeco Ecoray lamps in a vertical arrangement, means that Duron requires less space than other UV systems.
Kirsten Meyer, product manager with Xylem for UV disinfection said, “This minimises the space required for the solution as a whole. In addition, sensor-based ‘dose pacing’ means that the correct dosage is applied as required while both power and lamp life are conserved.”
The Wedeco Duron UV system will be available later this year.
