Singapore has officially cut the ribbon on Tuas Desalination Plant ahead of Singapore International Water Week 2018.
The new facility produces 30 million imperial gallons a day (136,000 m3/d) of desalinated water, about the same as SingSpring Desalination Plant, Singapore’s first, but has nearly half of the older plant’s footprint at 3.5 hectares. The new plant is the first in Singapore to adopt advanced pre-treatment, comprising dissolved air flotation (DAF), and ultrafiltration.
“We are laying more pipes to reach the population and industries in new growth areas, while maintaining and renewing existing water infrastructure. These heavy, but necessary investments… are made possible by right-pricing water to reflect the long-run marginal cost of producing our next drop of water, which is likely to come from NEWater (recycled water), and desalinated water,” said minister for environment and water resources Masagos Zulkifli.
Singapore International Water Week 2018 runs from 8 to 12 July 2018.
