Singapore setting for Desalitech pilot plant

A 200 m³/d pilot reverse-osmosis (RO) water treatment unit is to be set up in Singapore by Desalitech Ltd under a contract from a client who has yet to be named.
The project will feature Desalitech‘s next-generation Closed Circuit Desalination (CCD™) technology. It will demonstrate a novel affordable means to increase the overall recovery of an existing water reuse plant from 75% to 90% or more and reduce operations costs.
The CCD pilot unit will operate alternately on the brine stream from the existing RO system and on the ultrafiltration-filtered secondary effluent that feeds the existing conventional RO system, thereby demonstrating the high flexibility of the technology. Permeate from the CCD pilot will be suitable for potable reuse.
The purposes of the pilot tests are to increase the percentage of usable water extracted from the wastewater and to generally demonstrate that CCD technology can achieve high recovery, fouling resistance, process reliability and low energy consumption in water reuse applications. The demonstration unit is under construction and will be installed and fully operational in 2012.
“We are proud to be working in Singapore, a nation that is a global leader in water reuse,” said Nadav Efraty, CEO of Desalitech. “Highly efficient and reliable production of clean, useful water from wastewater is a matter great global interest. The simplicity and proven performance of Desalitech’s proprietary technology enables broader application of reverse osmosis to water reuse applications.”
