Sinai development continues with plans for new desalination capacity

Egypt’s Ministry of International Co-operation and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development have signed a deal to build a new desalination plant in East Port Said.
The agreement is for $119 million to include consultations with technical and legal experts; the total estimated cost of the project is $211 million.
In June, the Kuwait Fund agreed to finance five desalination plants on the Sinai Peninsular.
The latest desal project will provide 150,000 m3/d of water to a new housing development and industrial estate. It forms part of Kuwait Fund’s $900 million, three-year investment programme to develop the Sinai Peninsula.
