Siemens seeks bigger Israel desalination role

According to reports from Israel, Siemens is looking to up its stake in the 275,000 m³/d Soreq desalination plant from supplier to equity partner.

Haaretz.Com reported on 11 June 2009 that Siemens Israel wants to buy Baran Group’s one-third share of a consortium, which also involves GES Global Environmental Solution Ltd and Shapir Civil & Marine Engineering Ltd.

The other remaining bidders are IDE Technologies Ltd, Israel, with Hong-Kong-based Hutchison Whampoa Co Ltd; and Tahal, part of Kardan NV, Netherlands, with Veolia Environnement SA, France. A bid involving GE with Housing & Construction Holding, Israel, lapsed after GE withdrew.

Siemens Israel is also bidding with Israel’s Minrav Engineering and Valoriza Agua, part of Spain’s Sacyr, to contend in another Israeli desalination tender for the 385,000 m³/d Ashdod desalination plant.
