A 100,000 m³/d brackish-water desalination system is to be built in Manila, Philippines, by Pall Corporation.
The US$ 14.7 million project, which will use microfiltration and reverse-osmosis, will start producing potable water in 2010.
The Pall Aria™ plant will be the Philippines’ first large-scale membrane filtration plant and is being built for Maynilad Water Services Inc, one of two privatised concessionaires in the Philippine capital. Pall will provide project design, installation and management services.
Francis McKeever, vice-president, Pall Water Processing Asia/Pacific, said, “This installation will combine Pall’s membrane systems and expertise with low-cost engineering and execution from an indigenous partner, to affordably deliver membrane technology to this burgeoning area.” He said the plant would occupy an area of 0.8ha and have a peaking capacity of 120,000 m³/d.
