Oman’s Marafiq extends bidding deadline for Duqm power and water project

Omani utility Marafiq has extended the bidding deadline for Duqm power and water project from 1 August to 15 September 2017, reports Times of Oman.

Up to eight pre-qualified companies are expected to bid for the engineer, procure and construct (EPC) contract for a large gas-fired power plant and desalination facility. The contract award is anticipated in Q1 2018.

The project comprises a 183 megawatt (MW) power plant and 9.5 million imperial gallons a day (43,000 m3/d) of desalinated water capacity, and primarily will serve a new refinery and petrochemical complex in Duqm industrial zone.

It is being developed by Marafiq, a joint venture of Takamul Investment Company (65 per cent), and Sembcorp Utilities (35 per cent), which serves the Special Economic Zone Authority of Duqm (SEZAD).
