Memstar set to mass-produce improved PVDF membrane

Singapore membrane manufacturer Memstar announced on 1 July 2011 that it is now ready for mass production of its newly launched TIPS PVDF hollow-fibre membrane and related products.

According to Dr Ge Hailin, CEO of Memstar Technology Ltd, the new TIPS (thermally induced phase separation) hollow-fibre membrane will greatly improve the performance and efficiency of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow-fibre membranes widely used for water and wastewater treatment and desalination.

Compared with the conventional NIPS (nonsolvent induced phase separation) fibre, says Memstar, the TIPS membrane fibre has much stronger mechanical strength (4-6 times stronger than NIPS fibres), much stronger alkali resistance (up to 2% NaOH), much stronger anti-oxidation/ozone resistance property and longer service life.

Memstar PVDF hollow-fibre membrane products have been used on various water/wastewater treatment projects in China, South East Asia, Taiwan, Europe and North/South America. Memstar’s PVDF membrane was recently certified by US accreditation body NSF International for drinking-water applications, which will allow Memstar to compete for large international drinking-water projects.
