Membrane bioreactor (MBR) ultrafiltration technology is to be supplied to a suburb of Hungary’s capital, Budapest, by GE to expand a wastewater reuse system and improve water quality.
Upcoming regulations governing water reuse prompted the upgrade in Veresegyház, which will use the purified water for irrigation, a recreational pond and industrial reuse.
Known for its recreational lakes and parks, Veresegyház has been experiencing a freshwater shortage in recent years. In 2010, the water authority issued a permit that allowed the municipality to reuse the water treated with MBR technology.
Under the contract, GE will supply Veresegyház with four ZeeWeed 500D trains comprising eight cassettes and 288 modules. This will expand the plant’s treatment capacity to 5,000 m³/d.
