Indian engineering and construction company Larsen & Toubro announced on 11 May 2010 that its business unit had secured a contract for Doha South Sewage Treatment Works, Qatar, involving ultrafiltration technology.
The turnkey project worth QR 691.2 million (US$ 190 million) is for advanced wastewater treatment and urban water reuse and includes design, supply, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of the Phase II expansion at the plant.
The treatment will involve a sequential batch reactor (SBR) followed by ultrafiltration (UF). The rated plant capacity will be 92,000 m³/d for SBR and 187,000 m³/d for UF.
The technology is being provided by ITT Corporation, USA, and construction will be by Galfar Al Misnad Engineering & Contracting WLL, Qatar. The project is scheduled to be operational by 2012.
