A memorandum of understanding signed by India’s Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) with the Singapore government, on sharing technology for water recycling, could help MIDC in bidding for a new desalination project in Uran, reports the Times of India.
Talks between MIDC and India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) are in early stages for a 20 megalitre per day reverse osmosis desalination plant to support ONGC’s oil and natural gas production in the special economic zone of Uran, near Mumbai.
Treated drinking water is used at the site, but operations ground to halt last June when supplies ran dry. The oil and gas operator is now seeking a longer-term and more secure supply of water from MIDC in Uran, and at its plant in Hazira, to the north of Mumbai.
