IDE to supply desalination for Teck copper mine

IDE is to design and supply a modular desalination plant for Teck Resources’ Quebrada Blanca copper mine extension project in northern Chile.

The facility will produce high-quality water for use in the copper concentrator.

IDE’s “experience in South America and commitment to high environmental standards,” were the keys to its success in winning the project, said Teck Resources project director for Quebrada Blanca phase 2 Karl Hroza.

IDE has at least 20 desalination plants operating successfully in South America. The design of the latest plant will meet all of Chile’s strict environmental safety requirements.

Further, the plant’s modular design is expected to help simplify installation at the mine site, as well as reducing installation and startup time and cost.

“Our modular seawater reverse osmosis desalination design is an excellent solution for remote locations owing to its prefabricated modules which require minimal maintenance,” said chief executive of IDE Projects Guy Sagie.
