IDE Technologies has been awarded the design and supply contract for a 140,000 m³/d desalination plant for the Sino Iron Project in Western Australia by CITIC Pacific Mining.
IDE said the contract for the reverse osmosis facility, due to be completed by 2010, is worth more than € 100 million.
The Israel-based company said the project is one of the most complex in the world and one of the largest of its kind supplied by IDE to an overseas client. The quality of the feedwater demands more precise and complex treatment than in similar installations elsewhere.
●IDE also celebrated in August the inauguration of its multiple effect distillation (MED) desalination plant at a national power plant in Kazakhstan. The plant comprising 2 MED units with a total production capacity of 12,000 m³/d supplies boiler feedwater to the power plant as well as drinking water to the nearby city of Aktau on the eastern shore of the Caspian sea.
The desalination units are designed to accommodate the unique characteristics of the Caspian seawater while adhering to European standards and Kazakh regulations.
