The president of the International Desalination Association (IDA), Dr Corrado Sommariva, who is managing director generation, ILF Consulting Engineers, Middle East, will be giving a workshop on Economics and Management of Desalination on 30-31 January 2012 at the 2012 Water and Energy Exchange (WEX) international summit in Lisbon, Portugal.

IDA is supporting the event (31 January - 2 February 2012) and also organizing a desalination session, to be moderated by Leon Awerbuch, IDA programs chairman and president and CTO of Leading Edge Technologies Ltd.

Several other leading IDA desalination experts will speak at this event, including 

 Degremont’s Miguel Angel Sanz, an IDA director; Nikolay Voutchkov, president, Water Globe Consulting LLC; William Chang, executive managing director, Emirates Sembcorp Water & Power Company; and the president of the European Desalination Society, Ian Lomax, Dow Chemical Company – FilmTec Membranes.

This panel will address the industry’s strategies to find cost-effective, energy-efficient ways of supplying water to energy-scarce areas while increasing sustainability.

Also scheduled to speak at WEX 2012 are Dr Abdullah Al-Alshaikh, IDA director and deputy governor for planning and development, Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), and Ghassan Ejjeh, past president of IDA and senior vice president, BESIX Group.
