GE Water & Process Technologies will supply advanced wastewater treatment technology to Luo Fang Wastewater Treatment Plant, Shenzhen City, making it China’s largest membrane bioreactor (MBR) facility.
Luo Fang plant treats municipal wastewater for 650,000 residents of Shenzhen City in Guangdong province. The upgrade will add 150,000 m3/d of capacity, taking total capacity to 400,000 m3/d, and will introduce water reuse capability.
GE is providing 408 membrane cassettes with 48 ZeeWeed 500D membrane modules; an MBR control system including programmable logic controller panels with instruments; and the InSight asset performance management platform. Additionally, GE will provide engineering design, project management, commissioning, and start up of the MBR system.
The upgrade will enable the plant to meet new effluent quality standards, while staying within the footprint of the existing plant.
“The new and more stringent effluent requirements in China make our ZeeWed technology a perfect fit for Shen Zhen Water Group’s expansion of its wastewater treatment plant. More and more municipalities are turning to GE’s solutions for wastewater treatment and water reuse, because our MBR technology offers increased performance in a smaller footprint and is ideal for difficult-to-treat water,” said GE Water & Process Technologies global leader, engineered systems, Kevin Cassidy.
GE Water & Process Technologies is up for sale, with the New York Post reporting that private equity firms Blackstone, Bain Capital, and Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, are all in the final round of bidding, with the asking price pegged at $3 billion.
