Essel Infraprojects Ltd (EIL) of India has won a contract for a large-scale desalination plant at Jodiya, on the Gulf of Kutch, Gujarat.
The public-private partnership contract is to design, build, finance, operate, and transfer a seawater reverse osmosis plant and associated infrastructure. Abengoa is the technology supplier.
The agreement provides for a 100,000 m3/d plant, and 20,000 m3 of storage capacity. The concession runs for 25 years.
The project cost is reportedly INR 10 billion ($140 million). Works are scheduled to complete within two-and-a-half years.
The off-taker is government-owned Gujarat Water Infrastructure Ltd (GWIL).
EIL emerged as the lowest bidder for the project in March 2018.
