The capacity of an existing desalination plant in Barbados will be expanded by three million gallons, according to local media outlet Nation News.
The website reports the island’s minister of agriculture and water resource management, Dr David Eastwick, as saying; “The Water Authority has engaged Williams Industries, and the present desalination plant in Spring Garden will be expanded to pull out an additional three million gallons of water.”
Eastwisk reportedly told the House of Assembly that two new packaged desalination plants are being delivered to the island this week by Williams Industries and Innotech.
Last December, speaking at a formal opening of the Barbados Water Authority’s new headquarters, the minister said that the severity of water shortages on the island: “There is going to be no solution apart from desalination that will effectively address the challenges in the short to long term.”
