BEL Composite Industries Ltd has been awarded a multimillion dollar contract to supply nearly 2,000 units of 16-in side-port pressure vessels for the Sorek seawater desalination plant in Israel.
With a capacity of 150 million m³/year, Sorek is the first and largest seawater desalination plant in the world using 16-in pressure vessels. The contract was awarded by Sorek Desalination Ltd, a joint venture between IDE Technologies Ltd and Hutchison Water.
The high and low pressure vessels are already in production including unique features designed and implemented by BEL. The order will be completed during the second quarter of 2011.
The seawater/brackish water reverse-osmosis membrane contract has been split between Dow Water Solutions and Nitto Denko/Hydranautics. Dow’s Ian Lomax says the company’s 17,000 membrane share will be delivered in two parts ending in June/July 2012.
The project is due for completion in late 2012/early 2013.
