The 100,000 m³/d Qingdao seawater desalination plant in China is to become the seventh Befesa- built reverse-osmosis plant to use PX isobaric energy-recovery devices from Energy Recovery Inc (ERI).
The Qingdao desalination plant is expected to be operational by the end of 2012, and ERI‘s pressure-exchangers will save more than 2,000 kW of energy and offset more than 10,000 tons of CO2 annually, said the company.
“While desalination represents a long-term solution to global water scarcity, the water produced must be affordable for it to be a viable, sustainable option,” said international director Carlos Cosin of Befesa, the Spanish company building the plant.
