Desalination “part of Reclamation’s toolkit”, AMTA told
Commissioner of the US Bureau of Reclamation Mike Connor believes “desalination has to be part of the toolkit” that the bureau uses to address the issue of shrinking water resources in the western United States.

Marin County poll shows support for desalination
Opinion poll results released on 9 July 2009 by Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) in California, USA, showed 58% of consumers would support a desalination option in a multi-pronged approach to the district’s future water supply. This rose to 68% when more information was provided.

WHO updates drinking-water guidelines
More guidance on desalination is included in an updated version of the World Health Organization’s Guidelines for Drinking-water Quality 3rd edition, which can be downloaded from WHO.

Reuse highlighted in WSAA urban water roadmap
The volume of water being recycled by the largest water utilities in Australia has increased by 117% since 1999/2000. In addition, it is estimated that, by 2013, 460 million m³/year will be supplied to Australia’s growing cities by desalination plants.

EDS desalination courses relocate to Genoa

Contract let for Laredo AdVE desalination plant
Applied Water Management (AWM), a subsidiary of American Water, announced on 15 May 2009 a contract from Terrabon LLC for engineering services and the operation of the 50,000 gpd (190,000 L/d) Advanced Vapor Compression desalination pilot plant in Laredo, Texas.
