BEL wins pressure-vessel order in Cyprus
BEL Group Ltd announced in mid-May 2010 that its subsidiary, BEL Composite industries Ltd, had been contracted to supply its composite pressure vessels (desalination membrane housings) for the 60,000 m³/d Vasilikos Power Plant seawater desalination plant in Cyprus.

Desalination affected by California powerplant ruling
The powerplant with which California’s new 189,000 m³/d Carlsbad seawater reverse-osmosis (SWRO) plant is co-located has been ordered to cease once-through cooling by 2017. The Huntington beach powerplant, site of another proposed desalination plant, has been given until 2020.

A US$ 400,000 grant has been awarded by the US Office of Naval Research (ONR) to desalination membrane developer NanoH2O for evaluation of its high-flux membranes for shipboard desalination system.

New Jakarta RO desalination plant will open in December
A 5,000 m³/d seawater desalination plant is to be opened in Jakarta, Indonesia, in December 2010. The US$ 5.72 million reverse-osmosis facility will be at the Ancol Dreamland Park to provide clean water for its residential complexes and theme parks in the north of the city.

NEWater plant No 5 opened in Singapore
