Al Dur desalination financing tied up
Gulf Investment Corporation (GIC) and GDF Suez announced on 26 July 2009 completion of the limited recourse financing of the US$ 2.1 billion Al-Dur Independent Water & Power Producer (IWPP) project , which includes a 218,000 m³/d seawater reverse-osmosis desalination plant as well as a 1,240 MW combined-cycle gas-turbine power plant.

Befesa closes Quindao desalination finance
Spanish contractor Befesa announced on 23 July 2009 that its subsidiary Befesa Water has closed financing for the design, construction and operation over 25 years of a 100,000 m³/d seawater desalination plant in Qingdao, China.

Commission to investigate Antiguan desalination repayment
The chief justice of New South Wales, Australia, James Jacob Spigelman, is to head a commission of inquiry in Antigua into the repayment by the government of Antigua & Barbuda of a US$ 29.75 million loan from Japanese desalination supplier IHI to the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA), the government announced on 24 July 2009.
