Oman’s Public Authority for Electricity and Water has requested Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) to initiate procurement for a new 30,000 m³/d independent water project to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2017 according to OPWP annual report.
This request was made in anticipation of a requirement to meet the industrial water requirements of Duqm as well as non-industrial requirements. OPWP said a decisison on whether it will proceed with the water project procurement, and if so, the capacity of the plant is expected this year.
OPWP said it had short listed 56 places on the country’s coast as potential sites for power and water production over the next thirty years. Each site is to be evaluated further.
OPWP said it intends to implement new arrangements for the future procurement of power and water from independent power and water producers in Oman. They included power and water purchase agreements aimed at increasing competition between new-build and existing plants.
