The City of Escondido in southern California approved on 27 June 2012 spending of US$ 1.14 million to hire a team led by Black & Veatch and including Brown & Caldwell for services towards its Indirect Potable Reuse Program.
The city’s Hale Avenue Resource Recovery Facility is nearing 75% capacity at which point the city has to submit a report and a plan of action to the Regional Water Quality Control Board. Bearing in mind water‑supply reliability concerns for the city, expansion of its reuse facilities might include an advanced wastewater treatment system for either direct or indirect potable reuse.
The Black & Veatch/Brown & Caldwell team recently completed a similar study for nearby San Diego.
