Saudi Arabia’s Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has awarded consultancy, Black & Veatch, the engineering and design contract for a major desalination project that will supply the kingdom’s second largest city, Jeddah.
The 400 Ml/d Jeddah 4 reverse osmosis (RO) project will increase water resources for the city’s 5 million people. When completed, Jeddah 4 will be among Saudi Arabia’s largest desalination plants.
“An augmented water supply is central to the prosperity and continued development of Jeddah,” said Middle East managing director at Black & Veatch, Mazen Alami.
Jeddah 4 will be tendered on an engineer, procure, construct basis. Black & Veatch will be responsible for studies of site and adjacent sea conditions, conceptual process and engineering design, and preparation of tender documents. In addition Black & Veatch will support SWCC during the tendering and award of the EPC contract.
Black & Veatch has worked with SWCC since 1993, notably on the Shoaibah to Jeddah Water Transmission System.
