Spain-based energy and environment company Abengoa has inaugurated the first desalination plant in West Africa. The 60,000 m³/d plant will make potable water for some 500,000 people in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
The seawater desalination plant’s output will be sold to Ghana Water Company under a 25-year build-own-operate-transfer model. It has been treating water for the past two months. Revenue forecasts for the plant run at about US$ 1.300 million over the 25 year period.
