VSEP to branch into olive industry?
18 Dec 12 by desalination
The VSEP vibrating membrane system is being evaluated at the University of California Davis and the US Department of Agriculture – Agricultural Research Service for possible use in treating wastewater in the olive industry.
With over 600 million gal (2.3 million m³) of wastewater generated per year, the California olive industry is looking to find new ways to save water and reduce discharge fees. Taking it one step further, the UC Davis Olive Center hopes to find ways to harvest beneficial products from the waste streams for use in nutriceuticals (food products with reputedly beneficial health or medical benefits).
UC Davis and USDA have been awarded a grant to develop innovative approaches to wastewater management and beneficial reuse. New Logic Research‘s VSEP system is among the technologies being evaluated.
New Logic will be providing a VSEP Series LP system at no cost for the duration of the testing, as well as on-site technical support and training.
New Logic CEO Greg Johnson spoke of the importance of university collaboration:
“Now more than ever, the country needs innovation, and that’s exactly what you get when you combine our novel technology and the passion of talented young engineers like those at the UC Davis Olive Center. We know what it’s like to take the seed of an idea and grow it into a thriving business – working with university researchers helps us reconnect with our roots while educating a new generation of engineers about our technology – everyone wins.”
