Veolia Water Technologies has won a contract to design and supply a reverse osmosis (RO) plant enabling process water reuse at Fosterville Gold Mine in Victoria, Australia.
The plant will reduce chloride levels in the produced water to less than 500 milligrams per litre, and will consist of multimedia and carbon filtration, followed by primary RO, and reject recovery RO processes. It is intended to help the mine operator, Kirkland Lake Gold, to meet operating licence conditions sustainably.
“We are proud to leverage our experience in RO technology for treating mine water to deliver this system, enabling Kirkland Lake Gold to produce a high quality treated water for reuse within the mine,” said Veolia Water Technologies’ client executive manager of projects, Leno Cavarra.
The plant is expected to be operational in 2019.
The Fosterville Gold Mine is a high-grade, low cost underground mine located 20 kilometres from the city of Bendigo. The mine is currently experiencing a significant increase in production due to recent exploration.
