The City of Hollister in northern California, USA, has appointed Veolia North America to run its 2.1 MGD (80,000 m³/d) membrane bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment system under a US$ 100 million contract announced on 24 August 2010.
Under the 10-year private-public partnership, which will serve 35,000 residents, Veolia Water will manage the facility, completed in July 2009, along with a water reclamation system and associated services including water reuse and recycling. The City of Hollister will continue to own all of the assets and set user rates; Veolia will manage the facilities.
“This new MBR facility was designed to meet Hollister’s growth plan for the next 20 years, said Philip Ashcroft, president of Veolia Water West Operating Services. “In selecting Veolia Water to manage its wastewater treatment facility, Hollister joins other progressive California communities in thinking long-term about its environmental future.”
