Toray of Japan has won the order to supply reverse osmosis (RO) membrane elements to the Tuaspring Desalination Plant in Singapore.
The seawater plant will have a production capacity of 318,500 m³/d, making it the largest in Asia outside the Middle East.
The project is being developed by Tuaspring Pte Ltd (Tuaspring), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hyflux Ltd of Singapore which won the 25-year design, build, own and operate project.
Toray is scheduled to supply the RO membrane elements in 2012, and the plant is expected to start operations in 2013.
Toray has a track record of membrane supply to plants in Singapore, including the 136,400 m³/d SingSpring Desalination Plant and the 228,000 m³/d NEWater plant in Changi, the latest and largest water reuse project.
