The Egyptian State Information Service reported that a mobile water desalination plant powered by solar energy was inaugurated in Marsa Matrouh governorate on 18 April 2014.
The plant will provide drinking water to desert areas suffering from water shortage, a move that the government says will create new urban societies for Bedouins and achieve sustainable development.
Agriculture minister Ayman Farid Abu Hadid, the head of the Misr el-Khair Foundation, Ali Gomaa, and Marsa Matrouh’s governor, Badr Tantawi, attended the ceremony. The plant is part of the state’s efforts to utilize scientific research in addressing problems in the society.
